Electric fuel pumps add all kinds of safety problems. For example, if the fuel line leaks or ruptures, the electric pump will fill the bilge with fuel. Then you go boom.
Rebuild the mechanical fuel pump, make sure the fuel lines are in good shape and are 3/8" id lines. Make sure the fiters and screens are clean.
If that motor has the backdraft carbs, there is a small screen under the brass fuel inlet elbows in the carb covers. if not, there is a banjo filter in the carb covers. Make sure both are clean.
