electric or manual start?

I'm thinking about buying a newer outboard motor in the 9.9 to 15 hp range. All I've ever had was the manual start motors (in the smaller outboards)and was wondering if the electric start was worth the extra money or if it was just another component that is prone to go out and be more of a head ache than it's worth.

Thanks,
TRP251

Well, alot of the electric start models come with a pull start as well don't they? I would say if you can afford it...go for it.

ZmOz,

You are right, I think most outboards have a manual start option, but I don't want to pay for an electric start if I'm going to have to start it manually. I admit it is probably a question of convenience that only I can answer, but I've never owned a small outboard that had this option on it and was wondering if others have had consistent, only periodical, or no problems with their electric starts.

Thanks for the reply :D
TRP251

You shouldn't have to ever start it manually...but the rope is there if you break down miles from shore... ;)

A battery will be needed with electric start also.
