Last spring I started gathering info, part #'s etc for my winter project of converting this motor to electric start. I had all that info in my old laptop. Laptop died. Can anyone refresh me on part #'s, etc. I'm gonna need the starter motor bracket, starter motor, solenoid and key switch. I think that's all. Any help would be great so I can start searching for parts and get things ordered.

Thanks,

Jeff

Go to the official BRP parts catalog BRP -- Parts Catalogs

From the products drop down list select "OB accessories" then "1972" then " Electrical 1972". You will find 3 lists that cover the kits of parts.

Non-related but never-the-less, a tip. Store stuff you want to keep on a flash drive or maybe Google Drive. I don't think the NSA is interested in outboard motor stuff, but ya never know...

Don't worry, if it is on the Internet, they already have access. Including this thread. I was a radio operator in the Army, and even way back then they made it abundantly clear that the enemy could see and hear everything we put over the air. There are no secrets.

Just got done converting my 1979 25hp Evinrude from pull to electric. All I needed was the starter bracket, starter, solenoid and I used a push button. You'll need 4-6 ga wire. If you use a key switch, will probably need other electrical items that I didn't need. Just make sure your flywheel is the right one for a starter and make sure to use the correct spline. Mine used the 11 spline.

Got the starter motor bracket mounted. Any advice on where to install the key switch or push button start. Haven't decided what I'm gonna use yet. I'm keeping it Manuel choke. Was thinking of mounting it on left side of front, around corner from choke lever. What size hole will I need to drill? Maybe that'll depend on what switch I get. image.jpg

HI white. Most folks mount the start button in the lower cowl pan, but if you're going with a key start you may want to run it to the helm. I would also suggest you install/replace the black, factory kill switch with a lanyard style, puh-button model like the one in the pic below. Not only does it add and extra layer of safety and security, but the red button stands out and is a more obvious color for stop/kill than having two black buttons. You can find them on amazon for about $10 and they use the stock wires in the factory location without any drilling needed. I've installed them on all my vintage motors and they work like a charm.
