Electric tilt/trim question

1987 Evinrude 50 hp. Tilt leaks down, other than that, it raises and lowers just fine. Where to start?

Is the backflow valve something that can be removed and cleaned, then replace the fluid?

What kind of fuid to use?

Seal kits are available from BRP dealers and there is a great description of the remove, rebuild, and replace procedure in the factory manual. Make sure the manual release screw is tight before tearing into it. 99% of the time it is caused by seal failure.
