Hope this isn't to simple for this great site but here goes. I have a 1986 Procraft bass boat with the 150 Black Max. This boat like so many others comes with 3 batterys, 1 for starting and 2 for accessories. It is the end of the season around here and the 2 accessory batteries have seen better days. Can I pull them out of the boat and still run without damaging any charging components on the motor or do the batterys have to be connected to complete the circuit. I plan on isolating the leads once the batterys are removed. I would like to see how the boat handles minus the 120 extra pounds in the very rear of the rig. Thanks Kendo form Wi.

Yes. The TM batteries usually only runs the TM. Sometimes, for convenience, the forward mounted fish finder is operated off the TM wiring to the bow. The engine start battery usually runs everything else. Son has a '95 180C with a Merc 150.

Kendo, It depends on how the batteries are wired. If they are wired thru a battery switch which allows you to choose 1-2-3 or all, set the switch to the starting battery and pull the other out. If they are wired thru battery isolators or combiners, you might like to wire the motor directly to the starting battery.

Re: electrical advice please

Chris 56, I don't have a switch that isolates the batterys. It appears that the motor leads do go to the starting battery but I don't know what else may be running off the accessory batterys. I guess I will have to throw some accessory switches while the batterys are disconected to find what does what. I know the motor will run but I don't know about lights and gauges. This rig also has an onboard AC charging system. Thanks for the replies, kendo.
