I?ve got a electrical starter on my Evinrude 50hp 1975. To get it running i?m using a battery. But does the engine give some charge to the battery meanwhile the engine is running? In my case ?t?s hard to say because it seems like someone been crude to the cables, but it is supposed to be a cable that delivers charging on these engines?

Re: Electrical delivery?

The engine has an alternator. DO NOT attempt to run the engine without a battery as this will damage the charging system.

The charging takes place via the battery cables identical to an automobile.

To tell if the charging system is functioning, hook up a volt meter across ther battery terminals and make a note of the reading. The voltage should increase somewhat when the engine is running. Does it?

Re: Electrical delivery?

A battery that shows 12 volts at rest is totally discharged. That is if the volt meter is accurate.
