I have an Evinrude 9.9 1998. I was having flooding problems so I took the motor home to check it out, I found the primer hose cracked so I thought problem solved. At home it ran OK but, was missing occationally when idling.

When I took it back to the boat and hooked it up to the start/prime/stop switch, the problem returned. The engine would start, immediatly flood, then die.

When I took off the start/prime/stop plug, the engine seemed to run OK again. I checked out the primer solinoid and it seemed OK.

Anyone see this before or have a clue what's going on? Thanks!

You probably need to clean or rebuild your carb. Sounds like your float is sticking. I would spend less than $20 and get a rebuild kit from the dealer. Change your needle valve and seat that holds the float. Put your new float in and set it so it is levelwith your carb when turned upside down. Make sure your high speed jet (the long one) is perfectly clean of debris and you should be in business.

Re: Electrical/Fuel Problem Evinrude

Thanks Fireman,

The strange thing is that I don't have the same problem with the electric start/prime/stop unplugged. That leads me to believe that its electrical. I can hear the solinoid on the primer snapping when I push the key in and I took a look at it and looked fine.

Because of the way this is acting, and the cleanness of the motor, I suspect the carb is OK.

Sorry I didn't read your first post correctly. Your plug might be stuck on prime somehow which would flood your engine out. I don't know for sure as my 9.9 is pull start. never any problem like this maybe Joe Reeves will see this and can help you. Don't put out a new post for him as he probably has seen it and is stumped too.
