I was trying to get my motor to start today and it didn't seem like I had spark. My son left the key on and a few minutes later we smelled smoking and noticed this ceramic piece was SUPER hot. I have no clue what this piece does bot the wires from the coil connect to it.

What is the best way to check for spark on these outboards?...I have a mercury power trim 1500.

Thanks,
Rob

I noticed you have no replies. Try this.

1. Please identify exactly what engine you have, inline or V6, switchbox or distributor, year if known, etc.

2. I have no idea what "this ceramic piece" is. A photo would help. BTW, please size the photo to 640x 480 or so, or the photo changes the dimensions of the forum and makes it difficult to read the text.

3. The title should proclaim both the motor involved and a 1 or 2 word description of the trouble.

hope it helps
John
