Electrical issue

I have a yamaha f115 2003 four stroke. I was trolling this weekend and my batteries went dead. I have them hooked up to a two way switch which was in the "all" position. I was running a fishfinder and my wipers at times. Would this be enough to drain both batteries or do I possibly have a bigger issue with the motors charging system? Thanks

Re: Electrical issue

check your charging system.
the motor itself uses roughly 9 amps just to idle.

Re: Electrical issue

Thanks for the reply. I just need a little guidance on how to check the system. Do you mean volts coming from the alternator and charging coil etc?

Re: Electrical issue

check peak voltage loaded between the W-W wires into the regulator, unloaded should see 9.3v peak cranking, loaded at 1500 RPM 37V peak.
red to black wire output should remain steady at about 13.5 to 14.8V dc.
remember its a 3 phase system,w-w,w-w and white to white.
there are three coils shareing a common tie.
also check resistance to ground between each white and the block, should have infinate resistance.

Re: Electrical issue

Hey Rodbolt thanks for your help. I think ive checked this correctly. Between red and black I only have twelve and change. When testing w-w, w-w, and white-white it zero's out. Am I testing these right? I do have infinite resistance when testing them on the block.

Re: Electrical issue

I have no idea what "zeros out" means.
if it shows almost zero ohms then its good.
if its showing infinate ohms thats bad.
if its zero ohms then most likly the regulator assy failed. usually due to loose battery wingnuts.
