I went to start my 96 Suzuki DT 140 this morning, I heard the electric choke solenoid work, the guages were working and then nothing. Now I turn the key on and nothing. I tried the power tilt button on the shifter and nothing. I try the tilt button on the side of the motor and the down button does nothing, when I try to raise the motor with the button on cowl I hear a clicking noise inside the black sealed box on the other side of the motor. ( I looked at wiring diagram at Brown's point and it looks like it's a CDI?) Any idea where I can start? The battery was a little low but not dead- it's on the charger. I washed the boat yesterday and the tilt trim was working fine.

check all battery connections, the CDI has absolutly nothing to do with electical power for any engine functions.

Thanks, The old battery was reading 11 to 12 volts on a battery meter, the same as the new one. I switched out batteries and everything works OK now. Can a battery be bad and still read a high voltage like that? They are both deep cycle wet filled marine starting batteries.

a battery with a bad cell can still read 12 volts output off load to check the battery correctly you should use a load test meter this puts a high current test on the battery whilst reading the terminal voltage

Thanks for the info, Advanced Auto parts says they have free battery checks. I will take the old one down and have it checked. I'm glad it happened in the driveway and not out on the water!
