i was working on my i/o merc 120. i noticed if i touch any of my control cables to a ground on the engine i get a spark. i'm trying to determine if the cables are hot or if the block is hot. i've looked for a shorted wire and can't seem to find any. anyone have any ideas?

Re: electrical problem

You need to start by getting a voltmeter, arcing wire can be dangerous, then put the meter ground on the battery and ck the system

Re: electrical problem

thanks Laddies, i've already determined the hot side to be from the shift controls with my meter. the only electrical wiring in the panel should be the trim controls right? they may be shorting out. there shouldn't be ingnitionswiring inside my key switch is in the dash panel.
