When I connect my battery, everything is powered at the helm, lights and gauges, even though key is off and power switch at helm is off. I do not think it is the power switch at the helm, because I removed it and everything is still on. I will try a new power switch but, Any other ideas ? Thanks. not to many options...

is this a new issue or the result of recent wiring mods ???

if +12v reaches the "distribution network of accessories" and the switch or switch wiring is not the problem than a short is likely.

Work back from a a "powered" accessory till you find the problem.

jiggling twisting accessible wiring could help narrow down the problem.

Thank you Crosbyman, I did install new gauges but didn't change anything just took the same wire off old ones and put onto new ones. I am right to assume there should be no power going past the ignition switch when the key is off? I am going to double check everything today. Hope I can find something.

when a key is OFF no power should pass to accessories but....it could be defective or the source of the 12V is not from the switch itself or the wiring is incorrect ...(not what you think it is)

or you are getting a back feed from another junction... but this did not just happen by itself unless it is a short condition that happened (friction, vibrations ...?)

it is just a question of tracking back the +12v from a powered accessory with a test lamps or meter to the source of the 12V+ feed.

Found it, the tach had an extra hot wire on it that did not effect the old gauges, but was causing issues with the new ones. Also the power switch on the helm was shorted and the new switch did not come with a diagram and the pins were completely different so that was trial and error. Back to normal operation. Thanks Crosbyman.
