On a 1959-1960's Evinrude Starflite 2 75 horse power engine, The electrical box has some wires coming out of it. They were cut when I recieved the motor. Can I "Hot wire" them in? What needs power to the engine? The steering is run by cables, the engine has a pull start, It does have a starter mounted on it, can I just run a push button starter? It doesn't have "power up" on the engine, its manually hydraulic. (Hope that makes sense) Do I even need the power plug in? Thanks, JON

Re: Electrical Question??

The 1959 V4 was/is a 50hp model. The first 75hp was manufactured in 1960. If the engine has no generator and the ignition is magneto, all you need to do is wire in a starter solenoid setup and a kill switch of some king to shut down the ignition when needed... toggle switch etc.

Magneto... spark plug wires lead out of the bottom of the unit.

Re: Electrical Question??

That diagram looks good, but the ground on the solenoid should be to a neutral safety switch. You and I know enough to crank in neutral with just a little throttle. But if someone else tried it in gear, with lots of throttle ..... it won't be pretty.
