Ok, here is the scenario,
daughter had older mobile home with 100 amp service.

She bought newer trailer with 200 amp service.
Power company said she needs 200 amp cut off box out on the pole for they are running new wires and a new meter.

Now is this just a single 200 amp breaker cut off box or what?

Re: Electrical ?

Don't know what tehy mean by cut off box. Up here, the power co. requires a "bypass" meter. Allows you to engage a lever to bypass the meter for service work. They probably mean an outdoor disconnect. Check with them for sure and ask if it is to be a breaker type, a fused or non-fused type. I sell this stuff for a living. (Inside sales at an electrical distributor)

Re: Electrical ?

Yea they meant the outside disconnect between the meter and the trailer.

I bought my FIL a new trailer but can't remember what I had installed for it. Guess I will have to look. We are both in the same county anyway.
Thanks

Re: Electrical ?

Just ask the power co. what type, breaker, fused or non fused. Non fused will be by far the cheapest, but has no overcurrent protection. Do you (or your contractor) have to install and provide the meter box? There are some pretty slick all in ones available. Meter and breaker disconnect in one enclosure.

No the power company is taking care of the pole, wire coming to their meter and box.
We just have to install the disconnect box and run the wire up into the trailer.

Re: Electrical ?

I would probably guess they will want something with protection. I would go with a breaker type, even if they cost a bit more. It would be a bummer to blow a fuse and not be able to find a replacement on a Sunday night. 200 amp fuses aren't cheap either.

Yea I think that is what I got for the FIL's trailer was the breaker type.
If I ain't wrong, it just had one 200 amp breaker in it.

Re: Electrical ?

i know around here,, you have to have an 'inspection ' from an independant inspector in order for the power co. to make the final connections..

you have to have a permit to release the inspector..

an ONLY an electical licensed person or contractor can obtain a permit..

Re: Electrical ?

That's what I was thinking sange.
I will check with the power company to see what they say about the inspection.

I did not have to do that with the FIL's trailer since I put it on my home's breaker box.
