Im wiring a barn for my aunt and uncle, and they normally go above and beyond in normal thinking on the amenities they want for this barn. My Aunt has the idea that there will be 8 or 9 incadescent lights mounted in the overhang facing the driveway. She wants me to wire these lights so she can turn them on and off with the programmable remote cars have, similar to programming the car to open various garage doors..She also wants to be able to turn them on and off remotely from inside her house which will be about 20 ft away from the driveway...

So long story short looking for a way to operate approx 900 watts at 120v from the pushbuttons in her car, and a remote that will stay inside the house.

They say they have seen it done on some home and garden tv shows and what not,so im assuming it falls inline with smarthouse technology, but im just guessing...

Keep in mind ive tried talking them into timers and motion sensors to make my job easier, but they dont like either idea...
Any thoughts or ideas?

Re: electrical ??

I did this a few years ago with an old sears garage door receiver. I use the relay on the receiver to feed an interposing 120V relay that paralleled the on/off wall switch. I used an old relay that had a built in 1-20 minute timer so i could set how long the lights stayed on. My barn was about 250' from the house so I set the relay for about 5 minutes so I had time to get to the car and get it started. I could not turn them off, but they only stayed on 5 minutes unless I actually turned them on with the wall switch. If your garage door receiver has an output relay, this is a good solution.

You could try one of these X10 appliance modules. They are rated for a 15 amp load.I read somewhere that they are compatible with a lot of automotive homelink remotes, but you would need to check the owners manual for the car to be sure.Hope this helps.
