On Evinrude engines, what year did they switch from points to electronic ignition? How can I test the elect. ign unit, without taking it to a certified mechanic? Trying to save $$.
When it was started depends on size of motor. My books go back to 1973. All above 48hp have some type of electronic ignition or at least the option available and some smaller motors also. Before you attempt testing make sure you have the manual.<br />If you request assistance post the model year and horsepower.
