Will changing to a higher performance coil on 1970's era chevy 350 with electronic point conversion result in a hotter spark?

I installed a high performance coil and the engine runs much better. Not all problems are solved because it still runs rougher than I like when warm and after 30 or 40 minutes of running will die when shifting into forward gear. Not sure of next step??
