Hey folks

I would like to connect a fish finder at the stern of my boat, to the battery, which sits in the bow. I have a 6ga. cable for the motor's electric start, which runs from stern to bow. Could I simply solder the depth sounder into a section of exposed 6ga. cable to power up the finder?

I would also like to install a 12V power point in the bow of the boat. Similarly, could I splice the connection wires into the 6ga. starter cables, or do I have to go directly to the battery for both of these?

thanks alot for your help, I know very little about electronics.

cheers

Re: electronics connection - question

I am assuming you mean strip some insulation off and splice a wire into it. That is not a very good way.

If you want a power point at the front of the boat, you need to bring the power lead off the battery through a circuit breaker or fuse and then attatch that to a fuse panel which then distributes power to your devices.

Other option is to send seperate feeds from the battery to your devices through fuses at the battery.
