I picked up this oldie last year at a garage sale. It is a 1956 Elgin, 5 HP, 2 cylinder short shaft, sold by Sears R. I managed to spend some time at it this summer and cleaned it all up. Started 3rd pull. It runs but definately requires a carb kit and the impeller is shot. Other then that the motor is actually in really good condition. I have found lots of 7.5HP Elgins around but it seems that the old 5.0 HP's are hard to find.

Do anyone know where I can find these parts?

Is anyone interested in this engine?

Re: Elgin 1956 5 HP

They come up for sale all the time on Ebay. Another old motor may be the only parts source. Ask the guys on the Ask A Member board at www.aomci.org about parts and impellers. They will know. This site has a service manual for Elgins made from 1955-1960: www.acmeoutboards.com.
Good luck.
