serial #751 31240. model #571 58751:Can anyone tell me anything about this outboard motor, trying to find out all I can about it, the person trying to sell it can't tell me anything about it. All he can say is that it turns freely and has compression.

Re: Elgin motor

---Continuing from your other thread. -- I wouldn't discount this outboard to fast, if it is in descent shape it should still be a good running little engine. I have a couple of them myself. There isn't much to go wrong with them. Valuable(?), not really because there are so many around. A fair price if in good running condition might be in the $25 - 50 range, but where can you get a good running ourboard for $50? (I picked one up last fall that just needs the carb. cleaned for $15.) If you go froward with it just remember that this isn't a 100:1 or 50:1 gas to oil ratio engine. You need to run about a 25:1 gas:eek:il mix. I put a quart of oil in a 5 gal tank of gas. A bit to much oil doen't hurt the engine, to little oil will kill it.

52 7.5 hp. 8oz per gallon fuel mix.Built by West Bend ,bought by Chrysler in 65,became Force in 85.Laings outboards may have some parts, among others.
While these were pretty good motors in their day I wouldn't pick one as an everyday motor today due to parts availabilty.
