I am still trying to id my Elgin outboard. I took the engine apart and found part #s: below carb:621-10342, side of engine:22010, underneath carb bowl:07802, underside of carb w/bowl off:07965, plate tht carb mounts to:22167, side of carb under Tillotson brand:MD4A, Metal trim ring around motor(not prt of tank):22038, pulley tht is attached to top of engine tht the pull start engages to:119456, and on rubber vibration dampner under motor above boat clamp. The motor is green, 2 cylinder. The spot on the tank where the serial # was, the paint is gone.

Re: Elgin outboard

The Elgins from the 50's and early 60's had model numbers starting with either 571-xxxxx or 574-xxxxx. 571 being West Bend made or 574 being Mcculloch. The Elgins I have have a plate on the tiller arm with a stamped model and serial. Without this it'll be hard to tell as these motors from 3hp to 7.5 hp are sometimes identical in appearance.

Re: Elgin outboard

The carb suggests it's the 5hp or less. That's the best I could get.

Re: Elgin outboard

So no idea about a yr? At least if the info is correct in the carb, it should be a 3hp model, right?
