I'm looking at a 14' fishing boat that has a Elgin kicker motor on it now and was wondering if parts are readily avalible or if I should continue my search. The motor runs very well right now but more for future (impeller, carb kit etc.) thanks for any insight or opinions

"Elgin" covers a lot of territory. It is a Sears brand name, and was used for years, motors being supplied by more than one manufacturer. Most of them were built by West Bend. West Bend was then sold to Chrysler. Chrysler then sold it to U.S. Marine (Force brand). U.S. Marine then sold it to Mercury. Mercury then discontinued the whole thing. Parts are where you find them, but not exactly at the corner gas station. You have to hunt for them.

Another mfr of Elgins was Scott-Atwater (Scott-McCulloch).

I have a 1959 12hp West Bend/Elgin. It is a good running motor.
