Eliminating "growth" on rear pontoon deck

Hi All,
My pontoon is docked in a shady place all summer. I can't keep it covered, so it gets drenched when it rains and all the moisture drains to the rear 'cause of the slope. As a result, the rear deck seldom dries and a "garden" of fungi grows back there! Is there some kind of protection I can spray or apply back there , or does anyone have an idea of how I can replace the carpet with another material that is resistant to such growth? Thanks for any suggestions.

PS The battery and gas can sits on the back deck also.

Hi Jilly. When you say you can't keep her covered do you mean you can't put a cover over her, or do you mean you can't put her under a carport or similar structure? I suspect you mean the latter, but if not you need to get a cover for your barge ASAP. Now, the algae. I have the same issue on a small section of my barge just in front of the boarding ladder. I usually just leave it alone until boating season, then when the time comes I wet the area, agitate it with a brush, and rinse and the algae comes off with ease. If you do want to replace the carpet with something less plant friendly:rolleyes: there are such products. Check around online to find them. I remember seeing something that would fill the bill, but I can't remember where. If I find it I'll let you know.

i use a dilute bleach mixture. i can't guarantee the veracity of the color of your carpet, however, with mine it holds the color just fine and lets me rinse off the mold. a pressure washer works well too. its basically a plant that is rooted in the carpet and you have to get pretty deep to get it out. even then it usually comes back. i just do 2 major cleanings of my "bad" spots a year and then i hit it occasionally with the hose for a spot cleaning.

I bleach mine, hit the algee spots give it 20 mins. then hit it with a pressure washer. Removes it for a couple months, never ending story.

Bleach will degrade the fibers and cause early destruction of the carpet. Try Simple Green first.

I carry a spray bottle with bleach in it ,so when I see some green I ust hit it with a little spray. Theis also is good for that green that grows on the bottom of the boat or trailer as well.
