EMC problem

Greetings Collective, I've got a 2012 43.GXi-p with about 150 hours on it. It's been installed for two years. The problem I'm having is the boat will start and run fine for about 3-5 seconds and then turns off. I can restart it again and again it will run for a few seconds and then shut off. The fuel pump beeps three times like normal and the pump can be heard whirling up. Both the high pressure and low pressure pumps test out fine. A diagnosic tests shows no error codes when ran. The mechanic up here where I live says he has no idea what is causing the problem and has been wasting time swapping out parts including the solenoid and other relay switches. Next he wants to try a new ECM. That's over a $1000 guess to see if that's the problem. Do the repair shops not have a consultation / help line where questions can be answered by the Volvo marine people themselves? Or does anyone here have an idea what the problem might be? Thanks as always, Alex

I'm no Volvo dude but if this same thing was happening on a Mercruiser this is what I would offer.
The fuel pump turns on when the key is turned to run, the pressure builds up. The engine is started and the fuel pump is no longer being supplied with power so pressure drops. Once pressure drops to minimum the engine dies. there are no codes because you just ran out of gas. Put a volt meter on the wire feeding the fuel pump and see if it's staying on after starting.

Another method is hot wire the fuel pump and then crank it up, if it continues to run you need to get into the wiring. Could be a relay has gone bad

Thanks for your response. The mechanic I took it too states that it might be the crankshaft sensor. It's questionable to me that the sensor should have failed with so low of hours on it. I'm wondering if someone might know where that sensor is located. Is it anywhere near the starter, meaning towards the bottom where it could have possibly gotten sea water splashed on it?

If it's the crank sensor, you will lose spark also. Yes Volvo dealers have phone number to call for factory help. I 2X the hot wire the pumps for testing.
