I just saw a piece on discovery about surviving on water when the boat sinks and they mentioned an emergency grab bag "fishing equipment, salt water filtering, mirrors, flares, heat blanket, etc..."

just wondering if any site sells these in one package?

I have seen a few other sites but none that seems complete.....

Re: Emergency Kit

There are several survival kits out there, but they are always missing something... so don't be afraid to add something you'll want or need.

Here's a site that sells a few different ones... but they're definately missing some things and they have some things I wouldn't use (why on earth would anyone pack flints, tenders, and waterproof matches together? why not pack a lighter in place of the flints and tenders? I guarantee it will be able to start more fires than a pack of 10 tenders will, even when the juice runs out, it has a built in flint). So you know, just think about things like that and make the substitutions or additions that you would want and would use (I for example, wouldn't use flints even if I had them handy, because I am not good at starting fires from sparks, I would find it much easier to rub two sticks together).

Re: Emergency Kit

I think each boat need a different kit. Example in very cold waters of the Bearing sea all you need is a prayer book, unless someone can pick you up in 8 minutes or less.

In warm waters, First thing you need is a way to get out of the water and get in dry clothes.
Second most important thing is a EPIRB to tell people your in the water and your position. Life jacket and thing to aid others finding you. Flares, dry markers, smoke, signaling mirrors, ect. A handheld VHf radio with spare batteries in a water proof bag. If you do not get pick up right away and your in salt water then you need fresh water. Within days you will need food. If the EPIRB is working then you should not need anything for weeks because you should have been picked up. If you can catch fish you have food. Also the Eyes have water you can use.

My first thought would be a top of the line life vest and shark repellent:eek:
