 The previous owner of the Alumacraft boat I recently purchased wired the Minn Kota Endura 40 trolling motor using a receptacle with only 12-ga. wire to the battery. He did put a 50-amp fuse inline at the battery. Everything that I have been reading indicates that the receptacle should be wired with at least 8-ga. marine wire since the motor can draw 40 amps. Are my calculations correct? If so, what receptacle would you recommend for the larger size wire? I have looked at the ones sold here and most of them take only 10-ga. wire.
Thanks,
Mike

10 gauge wire may be large enough if the battery is located up front or at least forward of amidship. However, trolling motor wiring kits come with #8 wire and a receptacle that splices into the power wires. The matching plug also splices to the trolling motor wires. The inexpensive two prong receptacles and plugs will be just fine and don't cost an arm & a leg.

Thanks, Silvertip.
It is located amidships, so the run of the #8 will be about 5 or 6 feet from the receptacle to the battery.
