Hello !<br /><br />Well I will be getting a boat soon and have a selection between a few that are pre-owned, but are almost gutted for a fix-up project.<br /><br />everyone of the boats do not have motor or any of the wiring, but basic mounts and such are in place.<br /><br />The boats range in size from the 16' to 18' area and was wondering what the following should I look for.<br /><br />Eng maker, Size, HP rating, and so forth <br />also I planned on getting used likly, but would like to know info on what to watch out for not to mention any makers that are problem motors for used ones.<br /><br />I do play on using the boat to fish and maybe water sports like tubbing and other stuff.

It's a LOT CHEAPER to get a boat, motor, and trailer as a used package. Too many times a motor alone might cost twice what a used package would have costed.

Get the best comeplete boat you can afford.<br /> Stay away from orphan motors Check the transom and floors for rot. A test drive is important<br /> They all ran good when they were put away.<br /> Sounds like your new to boating I dont think its a good idea to start off with a major project.All boats need some tinkering but dont start off with a build fram scratch.<br /> Dont end up with too much boat .Get something<br /> that suits what you want to do. You can always trade up later when you know better what you want.<br /> Good luck.

HI mICHAGAN fISHING<br /><br />steel is right, test drive the boat or you might end up like I did when I purchased my boat, got it 5 weeks ago, and done put more into it than I gave for it, and was told it ran good last timeo n the water, which was 2 weeks b4 I bought it,, but at any rate, good luck on boating, <br /><br /> laterzzzzzzzz Gene "TA" Green
