engine alarm continues to buzz

Hello everyone. I'm new here and would appreciate any insight anyone could provide. I have a 2003 Hurricane FunDeck 196R with a 115HP Yamaha 2 stroke. It has been running fine all season for its first year in salt water. Yesterday, I tried to start it for the first time in about 3 weeks, and the alarm buzzer is going off as soon as I turn the key. I checked the oil level, and the battery is charged. There were no issues prior to yesterday. Any ideas as to what could be triggering the alarm? Thanks so much!

Re: engine alarm continues to buzz

I know the alarm sounds for the following reasons on the 4 strokes. Don't know about 2 strokes:
1. Lanyard not connected when starting,
2. Low oil pressure (obviously would not apply to 2 stroke),
3. Overheating (I think it may also alarm if the impeller is damaged and not pumping cooling water in this case)

It may also sound for other malfunctions, but these are the ones mentioned in the service manual.

Post your question on the "Yamaha and Suzuki Outboard" forum. There are a lot of mechanic types over there.

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. I went ahead and started the engine yesterday with the alarm sounding. After about 10 seconds, it went off and seems to be fine. Maybe it had something to do with not being started in a few weeks. Thanks again!

The Alarm will sound when you turn the key,If every thing is working properly the buzzer should stop after about 10 seconds.I found this info through searches I have done trying to figure out my problem; The buzzer was disconnected at the Dealer, It willnot stop sounding off. I have no problems with the Motor, been running it for eight years. Nothing has happened "Yet".
