Engine alarm--kit available??

I would like to protect my freshly rebuilt '87 260 by installing a low oil pressure, overheat alarm. Toward late summer on Long Island NY, the drive tends to pick up alot of dead eel grass which can sometimes block the water intake. I could probably buy the senders and alarm and wire it myself, but it would sound every time you start the engine until the oil pressure kicks in.
Question is does any one sell a kit for this?
Thanks, Chris

That's exactly how you want it to work and that how the "real" system works.

You can do a little improvising though. Use a piezoelectric buzzer from Radio Shack and maybe a red light (because those buzzers are hard to hear at WOT)

You actually want them to come on when you turn on the key to test the system at every start up.

You get oil pressure quickly so it only buzzes briefly. You also don't forget and leave the key on very long either.

Re: Engine alarm--kit available??

I have seen an engine alarm kit, at West Marine.

I just went to their site, and a search pulled up one part number...but no picture, that I could compare to what I saw at the store.

It can be done using Mercruiser parts (that is what I did, for my 3.0L)...but getting the correct part numbers can be a real chore! The engine temp switch comes in two 'flavors'...one for the inline engines, and a higher set one for the V-6 and V-8.

If you have a West Marine nearby...give them a call!

The way I would do it would be to buy an "oil log" which you route your oil through, it will have ports for gauge sensor and pressure alarms, oil in/out and extra ports for additions later.

Ayuh,.. Why,..??

A Simple "T" fitting will allow adding the single switch necessary for what's Needed...
