Engine alignment problem

I am in the process of putting a new (to me) motor in my boat. I have the motor mounts and coupler from my old engine on the new engine. The problem im having is in order to even get the alignment tool to slide into the couple i had to have the front adjusted nearly all the way down. Its now adjustes all the way down and its close but its still not making good contact on the bottom of the coupler. I imagine if i took the lower nut off i could get the front down enough to have proper alignment. Seems to me though that the old engines aligntment should have been right for the new one as well. I should mention that the old engine was aligned last summer and was good. 76 Merc 233 with an alpha 1 outdrive. Thanks for any input!

Re: Engine alignment problem

The front needs to go down more but it is bottomed out aleady. Shimming the rear may help but i believe that isnt a good idea.

You need a different type mount. Your new ones are too tall.

No, the front needs to come down to bring the bottom of the coupler up? It's the location of the rear mounts.
