1980 Mercruiser 350/260. Alignment bars goes in easily at top 90/180/270 degrees. Pushes in with one finger and turns easily with two fingers. Everything back there is new. My only concern is that at 270 it has a little more resistance than the other three sides, but still goes in with one finger and turns with two. Am I being too fussy considering that the mounts will allow some minor movemnet? Just want to be sure so my new coupler will last.

Thanks!

Re: Engine alignment

that's exactly the way mine was fall of 07.
ran it all year w/o issue. est. around a hundred hours
this fall i only checked it where it fell off at... alignment bar went in nice and smooth...

i don't turn my alignment bar. i put spline grease on it and withdraw it and look at the spline pattern. looking for consistence in thickness of the grease all around..

Re: Engine alignment

Are there any signs of an engine needing alignment? It has been several years since it has been done on my boat. This year it developed a noise that I thought might be the gimbal bearing, but now I am curious.
