Checked my engine alignment and I have spline marks on all sides of the bar. However, the bar is kind of hard to get on to the coupler all the way. What does that mean? Do engine mounts need adjustment?

Thanks all

If you cant push it in and slide it out with 2 greasy fingers it needs an manual adjustment (that just sounds nasty)

You need to make sure there is no old ,dry grease in the coupler , Brak-Kleen and a old shaft. A coat hanger with a bent tip to clean the splines., etc.
A product called "Free-All", wrenches , spanners , etc and sockets to fit the upper and lower nuts. Loosen the top nut and adjust the bottom nut. Up or Down your guess to start.
Worst case scenario is rusted motor mount nuts. Rig a hoist across the gunnals , raise engine just enough to remove the front mount and take to a bench with torches to free it.. Being a IL6 is a breeze

Thanks for the response. That sounds like a lot of work. I'll try and clean out the coupler tomorrow and see where they gets me. Thanks again!

You may have an engine in perfect alignement (and with perfect grease witness marks all around I would suggest you do), but the gimbal bearing may be slightly cocked and making it difficult to get the tool in. With the tool in place (all the way in the coupler) give the end of the tool a thump with the palm of your hand, one up, one down, one to the right, one to the left. See how it is after that....

Thanks for the info. I tried this and it seemed to help. Not super smooth, but definitely slides in easier now.
