I have a 1986 Ranger 375V with a 1986 Yamaha 150ETLK. I purchased a starting battery yesterday for the boat. Set the battery in the boat and made a mistake only a 5 year old would make(Or a 36 year old that fails to pay attention). I reversed the cables. After seeing a spark, I put them the right way. I am now unable to start the motor. I checked the fuse panel, all good. I have power where the cable comes into the engine. Any help would be appreciated.
From,
36 year old who fails to pay attention

hello
there should be a 20 amp fuse about 3 inches down from the lug on the stater solinoid. if you connect the battery backwards it will pop this fuse, its an inline fuse in a black rubber holder.
good luck and keep posting

Rodbolt-
If I am looking at the starter solenoid, I see the negative wire coming to the top and the positive wire coming into the bottom. Is the inline fuse supposed to be on on of these wires or on an additional wire?
Thanks again!

Re: Engine and Battery problems (Help....)

hello
well its a 16 ga red wire that originally was assembled with the lug that goes on the positive terminal of the starter solinoid. the fuse holder is about 1/2 inch in diameter and maybe 1 1/2 inch long. it pulls apart. that is the fuse that feeds the 12v battery side of the key switch.
good luck and keep posting]
