Engine and outdrive identifying

Trying to figure out year and hp of a volvo penta. Valve cover says 280A on it. Also I think engine code is vo3108wk. Serial # on drive is 890036. What kind of drive is this and does anyone know what kind of reputation this engine and drive has. Thank you

That is a 1978 280 hp Chevy 350 with a 4bbl. The drive is a 280 with 1:61 ratio from the factory.<br />Recommended WOT RPM is 4700-5200.<br />Volvos are world reknowned for their reliability. Of course as with any machine longevity is entirely dependent on how well is was taken care of and how hard it was driven.

thank you for the info. What would be the recommended cruising rpm's for the best fuel economy. Also wondering what is the best way to change the oil? Thru dipstick? What oil would you recommend? Thanks

For most boats cruising range will be 2800-3500. Thru dipstick oil changes are okay, it does leave some oil in the pan.
