Didn't do a drive lube change when it was off. Bolted it up and topped off lube bottle. Drove for a mile or so and kept topping off bottle. Figured air was in system and the level dropped a couple times. Never let it drop below empty. After adding a half a quart or so. Bottle stays topped off now. Sound hasn't changed much. Drive was good when installed last year.

Just some back ground on the bravo 1. I had it sit covered for 9 months outside. Well the cover came off and it was exposed to rain (u joints too.. (shouldn't kill it?)

sounds like the drive was very low on oil and filling the drive thru the res bottle is not how its done. drain the drive oil to check for metal and remove the top cap to check the gears.

Alignment was good on the bar when I bolted drive on. I'll do a drive lube drain on it this week. How tough are those gears? Think the drive is shot? :( Since I was breaking in the new motor, I haven't had it over 3k rpm at all. No hole shots either. I'll order the drain / fill washers for the drive and get it checked out. I would imagine any metal means big problem? Thanks, Joe

No Title

Hello guys. Just an update.

I drained the unit and pulled the drive. The drive oil looked great..no white..no metal flakes. The magnets were clean.

The bellows was full of drive lube and grease. The Gimbal bearing had .5" of a gap between the bearing and the inside ledge of the transom. I felt a broken oring on the inside side of the bearing. The bearing moved freely, with no binding whatsoever (only a few hours on it). I tried the alignment tool and it didnt go in perfect (i assume the bearing isn't nearly seated correctly)

Also, the metal ring for the bellows was missing. Not sure if that has an effect on the yoke seal leaking or not. The leaking actually stopped and the bottle has stayed full. I however have ordered a new oil seal ring to be installed by a DIFFERENT mechanic on Friday. Once he reseals the drive and pressure tests it. I will be ready to bolt it back on.

I now know that the noise was from the bearing not lined up and it was inserted nearly far enough. How does it back out away from the boat like that?

Here are all the pics.

Thanks,

Joe
