Hi all, Lots of you guys were helpful when I was trying to diagnose the motor bang I was having. Like hitting a log. Then it kept happening. I finally hobbled the boat in. Most of you thought it might be the clutch dog. Unfortunately that's not the case. When we dropped the lower unit the spline on the drive shaft are chewed up. I can only see up the shaft w/ a flash light but it doesn't look good. Other than the party is over, any possible fixes. I want a 150 short shaft but times are tough w/ Mohamed Obama, so I have lawn art for now.

Thats not a good sign, sounds like you might need a crank and a driveshaft. That is why it is important to grease those splines when the LU is off. The driveshaft isn't too bad to put in, and you need to get a good look at the internal splines in the crank, they might still be usable, but they might not. See if you can get some good pics of the bottom of the crank.

I don't know how I could get a good picture of the crank. I can barely see it with a flash light. I only bought the boat a few months ago. I deducted the value of the motor when I bought the boat. 1984 Johnson 115
