hi all, ive a 1988 bayliner trophy with a mercruiser 3.0 engine, the engine starts great and idles fine, but once i pass 3000 rpm ( aprox ) the engine hesitates and looses power and some times pops thru the top of the carb, has anybody any suggestions of what trouble shooting steps i should take ??

cheers Gary

Ayuh,... It's staving for Fuel...
Change the fuel Filters 1st,+ if that don't do it, find the restriction...

+1 - find the fuel issue.

It's a 3.0, so probably no water seperator - you NEED one.

Possibly the anti siphon check valve at the fuel tank outlet. The valve is the tank outlet. It's ok to remove it FOR TESTING ONLY.

Other possibilities include ignition timing and worn-out points.

hi, i did a few checks today, and im only getting 2.75 psi fuel delivered to the carb, when i spray a petrol, into the carb is seems to eliminate the problem, think is a fuel pump the answer to my problem.

Ayuh,... Possibly, but the fuelpump can't push what it can't suck,...
Try a Test Tank like DJ said....

Why jump straight to the most expensive part and hope?

Filter?
AS valve?
Vent line clear?
Filter/s?
Collapsed fuel line(not likely but...)
