What is it that you can run through an outboard, and it is like the motor is "blowing it's nose"? I have heard about different products that will really clean out the system. I want to buy some but where do I get it? Thanks

Brent

Re: engine cleaner

If you are referring to "sneezing" that is a result of a lean condition. Dirty/clogged carbs, an air leak, linkage out of adjustment or too lean an idle setting are some possible causes.

Good luck!

Brent, if you are talking about a 2 cycle engine, I think you're referring to a decarbonizer product. Each engine mfgr has their own and there are some other products available, such as Sea Foam. If you have a 2 cycle engine, it's good to do this once (follow the directions exactly) the use a product to prevent carbon buildup. OMC's product is called Carbon Guard.

Re: engine cleaner

I did a search in these forums on "Decarbonization" and had found some good posts on this. I then took the advice of 12footer and some others on the brand of spray to use. I ended up using the Deep Creep made by Sea Foam, that I got at NAPA for $4.99 a can. I ran this through my engine as it said, let it sit about 20 minutes and then ran the engine again for about 25 minutes to get it all out. Using the water muffs, then took it to the lake the next day. I was able to get about a 4 mph increase on my speed from 3-4 weeks earlier.

This stuff is what 12footer swears by, and I now used it in my car also, which it restored quite a bit of power that engine also. A 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with the 5.2 V8, 132,000 miles. I ran only about half a can of Deep Creep through it, and then drove it, it ran like a champ. I definetly am going to use this stuff some more, to clean them both up completely.

Hope this helps,
Bryan Cox
