so i put a new prop on today (slightly lower pitch. went from 17 to 15). and i noticed when slowing down quickly i'd get a few seconds of clicking noises from the engine. its a 2000 johnson 130 oceanpro. i have a feeling it might be the engine slowing down quicker than the prop. just wanna make sure i'm not gonna damage something.

Put your motor in forward (engine off). Now turn the prop CW. Is that the same noise?

If so, you are slowing down so fast the prop needs to freewheel.

i didnt get a chance to see if it clicks. i have a feeling thats what it is cause if i slow down more gradually it does not make the noise. i've never had a boat do that before and i just wanna make sure i'm not gonna damage something.
