Engine Compartment storage???

I know this may seem like a funny question to most but I'm going to ask anyway.

Has anyone ever built in extra storage to their engine compartment?

I have a Larson 180 SEI and there is a tone of unused space in the engine compartment. Located right behind the rear seat.

I would like to securely modifiy some storage crates into the compartment for extra storage. I was wondering if someone has done this before and if there is a site selling supplies to do so?

Re: Engine Compartment storage???

My 22' Crownline has lots of storage on each side of the engine under the sundeck. Offhand, it has the following stuff under there:

Port side (hydraulic pump side): waterproof tool box, tupperware oil container (engine oil, outdrive oil, hydraulic oil, steering fluid, WD40, 3in1), package of 4 life preservers, bunch of pool noodles.

Starboard side (dual battery side): Porta potti, 20" fan, 120v inverter, kid's sand toys, bunch of air mattresses and blow-up toys.

Mine has insulating panels on each side of the engine. The stuff is stored between the insulating panels and the hull.

If you're going to build your own storage I would do the insulating panels beside the engine to keep things from getting too hot.

That is a very good point. I will use the insulation. Thanks so much.
