I have a 2008 Hurricane SD2400IO. I have lost all 12volt power to the console, therefore not allowing me to be able to operate a single thing, such as the stereo, bilge, lights, horn, etc. After troubleshooting the entire console wiring, I have determined there is no 12v power source coming to the console from the batteries. So I need to access the batteries, (which are in the engine compartment), to inspect the wiring connections there. PROBLEM......the ENGINE COMPARTMENT electric screw jack is ONLY operated by the 12v switch that is on the console!!! No Power-No switch-No open!!! There is absolutely no emergency access port, manual crank, jack release, etc., to manually open the compartment.

My wiring problem aside, and to maybe simplify and better explain my problem, what if both batteries went completely dead? How are you supposed to access your batteries to charge or replace them? Has anyone else experienced this situation on this model? Looking for help!!

Re: engine compartment

Couldn't you use another battery and clip it in to the main leads coming from the battery up under the dash where it enters the fuse block? Seems like that would supply power allowing for the motor to run to open the engine compartment...

Ayuh,... I guess I'd try hot-wiring it from the switch, with another battery...

Yup......I had to do that once. It was raining cats and dogs, a friend calls me, says his boat is sinking at the dock. We took the dash panel off and wired the switch to a battery. The battery went dead due to the pump running consatantly.

Works for me. Good Luck!

Every boat with a 12 volt operated hatch I ever worked on had a pos / neg bolt mounted in one of back compartments, so you could hook up a jumper box / battery to.

Re: engine compartment

Thanks Dorelse. I actually was planning on trying that as a last resort, as it is very tight in there. But before I did so, I wanted to see what others suggested and also what Godfrey (hurricane) recomended as a quick fix. I have gotten nowhere with Godfrey. One engineer just told me to simply lift up the cover!!! I told him that sounds good in principle, but it is hard to do when the electric screw jack is still connected!!! Your suggestion of another battery is certainly good when you are dry docked. But my problem happened while out on the water. So really I am trying to bring attention to this problem if you are stranded while out. Fortunetly, I can install a deck plate right next to the top bracket of the jack. It will be hidden in the rear storage compartment. With the deck plate, in no power emergencies I can simply reach in a pull the pin that attaches the jack to the cover. This is something Godfrey should have done from the factory.

If you do not have the posts mentioned above, you may want to install some. That said, I removed the electric ram entirely from my boat. It really isn't that much of a problem to lift the cover.

I've been known to carry one of those portable jumps start packs on my boat...would that be an option for next time? Personally, yeah, I think that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. No power, and you're on the water with no way to open the engine bay?
