1978 o/b 115 hp merc.... what is the best way to disconnect the control cables from the engine? I want to remove the motor from the transom for transom repair
Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle arm. Should be a 3/8" wrench to remove the nut. Now loosen the nut in the aluminum clamp on the shift slide. Now turn the aluminum clamp CW (or CCW, I forget which way). Now the shift cable will pop up and out. Now unhook the cable clamp, and pull the barrell nuts out of the clamp. Now the cables will pull out of the motor.
