So my engine remote control has taken its last trip I think. During my restoration I was able to clean up the box and regrease it etc. The box works like it should but the handle is shot and the cables are rusted in it so I think it is time to replace the entire set up. The boat is a 1988 model and I have what I think is the Commander Classic maybe? This is what it looks like, this is not mine so thanks to the guy on the internet who took this,

I have not been very successful in determining what to replace this with. I have a Mercruiser R/MR Alpha Drive, the current remote has a trim button, trailer and throttle only button. I would like to get a newer replacement that has the lanyard kill switch. Has anyone done this? Remember what manufacturer/model you got? Suggestions and recommendations from anyone interested are welcome as always.

I switched my classic out for a 8M0011214 that I found on ebay for $290. The panel cutout needed to be enlarged slightly, but was a very easy swap overall. Gen 2 cables would be required if you go with a newer controller like this.

This unit has the throttle only button, trim/trailer in a single rocker switch, and lanyard kill switch as desired.

I just bought all new four cables for my 88 model, hoping it will make things a little smoother...
Will see If I bought the correct ones tomorrow.

Will Gen 2 cables hook up to my current connections at the motor?
