Engine Coupler Grease

Going to be re-installing my freshly repainted, new gasketed, new water pump impeller Gen 2 in a couple of weeks. Before doing so, I have just a couple of questions. I have a new drive gasket which also came with a couple of small rubber O rings. I assume one is for the gear lube monitor/reservoir passage and another for the water passage. Would the others be for the drive shaft that goes into the bell housing?

Also, it says to "glue" the O ring for the water passage in place - do I need a true glue or could a dab of grease be used to hold it in place?

Finally, do I need a specific Engine Coupler Grease for the drive shaft into the gimbal bearing? I see that Mercury does make one for that specific purpose and I've heard conflicting opinions on whether 2-4-C or marine grease would work.

Thanks guys, cheers to spring and summer getting to us Midwesterners quickly!

the large rubber ring should be glued in place. less chance for it to dislodge installing the drive.

anything that will keep it in place during install. any gasket sealant should work. i use permatex aviation sealant. i've also used grease without a problem.

Thanks all for all the info, I'm thinking I will clean the old seat where the gasket goes real nicely, grease it up and go from there.

Still wondering about the extra o rings, do those go on the drive shaft? It likes there is a single one and then a set of two close to each other? I am assuming these provide a seal in the gimbal bearing?

There should only be two O-rings that go on the driveshaft, the two small ones. The larger one is for the water passage.

Ayuh,.... Correct,.... 2 to lock the inner race of the bearin' to the shaft, the 3rd helps hold the grease in the coupler splines,....
Slather 'em up with grease when ya stab the drive,....
