Engine cover latch broke, can not remove engine cover. (86 Evinrude 9.9)

This ever happen to anyone? Any tricks to removing without wedging a screwdriver in and prying it off. Thanks

my advice is to drill in 5 mm hole,make thread for a 6.3 mm bolt, and screv in a bolt,next spray some WD40 around latch leaver mechanism and try to grip abolt turning the mechanism

Should be able to grab the nub under the rear of the cowling with Vice-grips...

Alternatively, you may be able to gently wedge the FRONT of the cowling back enough to release the tab from the belly pan.
