Have a 2000 200Hp Ficht outboard, surging horrible last week, got a new fuel pump, starts up great runs low speed great, idles pretty good, Had to call mechanic to come to take a look, rpm are running very high and when he ran the computer scan, the motor is reading okay but the gage (rmp) is real high. When I was going about 15 20 miles an hour, the motor quit, turn key nothing waited a few minutes then it started up. This happen twice. The rpms said 7000 when I was going about 20 miles per hour.and the motor sounded good but the rpms keep getting higher and higher. and then it quit. Any ideal what is going on, sure would be helpful, thanks. No more surging, do you think the new fuel pump had any thing to do with this. He said the fuel pump is fine. He is bringing more computer stuff next week to check on it in the water. Just need some ideas, thanks

Are the rpms going higher on the tach only or is the boat speed increasing ??

When I keep going faster the tack shows the rpms getting hiigher and higher, what it is reading on the tach is totally different what is on the motor coming from the computer, that is showing what it should be. Never had this problem until I got new fuel pump but he said that is fine.

Look at the back of the tach and there's a switch. Should be on position # 6.
