engine does not start right away

Hey guys, Here is a simple question for some of you.

Last year my boat started just fine every time. Now this year, it normally starts right away and then dies. Then it will not fire a second time, unless I shoot it with starting fluid, then it starts right up. As soon as it is warmed up, then it will start like normal after I shut it off.

Is there an adjustment somewhere I can make on the carb that would eliminate the necessary starting fluid shot.

Sounds like it is time to have the carb rebuilt and check the fuel pump. ..... How old is the gas in the tank.

Starting fluid can be dangerous...I find it kills bees very well.

Check your gas like the boss said.

Also check to see if the choke is closed on a cold engine, see if the accelerator pump has gas it it at start up...if it does pump the throttle WHILE cranking to get some fuel into the manifold.

If you have old gas, dilute it.

don't use starter fluid in a two-stroke. Burns too hot and no oil.

it is a 3.0LX 4 cylinder I/O and the gas is good. I have already used the gas from last year and filled it twice almost, well the second time was only a top off to make sure it was full before we took it out.

Regardless of the motor..starting fluid is a very last resort, instead use WD-40 same combustible property's but doesn't wash down the cylinder walls, that stuff is real bad for gas motors, get your carb rebuilt, while its getting rebuilt it will also be cleaned, replace the fuel filter...all will be fine.
