Engine & Engine Manual Question

Howdy all. So I recently bought a 95' Bayliner 2050LS Capri with an Alpha 1 Mercruiser 5.0 L i/o. I was given almost all of the original paperwork with the boat. So there's the engine install manual (installing the engine on the boat itself) and then an engine service manual (this is confusing  ) that is a Blackhawk / Bravo 1 manual. I'm guessing that the previous owner didn't realize what he had? When you look at the engine, it reads 'Alpha One 5.0 L Mercruiser' (not particularly in that order). What gives? I'm guessing I need an Alpha One manual right? What's a Blackhawk? also... is this a Ford or Chevy engine? Thanks in advance!

Re: Engine & Engine Manual Question

You have an Alpha I Gen II drive.
Here is a link to the manual for that drive.
http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14cover.pdf

Your engine is a Chevy 5.0L
You need service manual #17 for it. The Mercruiser part number is 90-823225--1
Sorry, it's not online.

The Blackhawk drive is a high performance drive that goes on a Bravo transom shield. Who knows, the Previous owner may have bought it because it was a 94-95 drive manual. Even if it isn't what he had. It's happened before.

It's still the part number, they just left the class code off.

Re: Engine & Engine Manual Question

Ok, so I should go to a marine store or something to find the actual shop manual? Those are much more expensive. I'm not a mechanic, but want to be able to tinker and take care of the engine....

Re: Engine & Engine Manual Question

Ok, I got it - I'll get that manual :D . Thanks for the info! Hey, I won't be able to get the manual by tomorrow (I'll be out on the lake - 1st time!). Any idea on what RPM I should be at WOT? I wanna make sure I'm conscious of it while I'm toolin' around the water
