Is it possible to flush out an inboard cooling system (open system)? I have a 1987 260 HP (GM 350) and its been overheating running at any speed over a no-wake speed. It will idle around the lake all day long though.

The belts have been squeeling and then burning up and breaking. About once a year I replace the belts after one breaks. I have been through the entire cooling system, replaced both pumps, t-stat, etc. My thought is that the water pump is trying to push water through a blockage in the engine block causing it to work harder and making the belts slip. So I thought cleaning out the cooling system might be a good place to start.

Ideas?

Re: Engine Flush?

More information would be great.

Are we talking alpha or bravo?

Did you check the oil cooler yet?

You replace both pumps . . . so is it the sea water pump and the re-circulating pump? must be a Bravo drive . . .

Which belts are breaking?

Etc.

At this point it could be many things and I would be better to get more specific.
