After owning a string of older two cycle engines, I now have a new four cycle, a 2008 Mercury, 90 HP, Big Foot. There is a place on the rear of the engine for connecting a water hose. When I attempt to flush the engine, after running in saltwater, I don't see the usual "pee stream". The boat runs fine when in the water, but connecting a water hose does not produce the stream of cooling water I always got on the older two cycle engines. Should I forget this method of flushing and return to the Micky Mouse ears? Fortunately, I return from saltwater by way of a freshwater river. I'm not sure of the salinity at where I launch, but freshwater fish are there. Anyway, any ideas on flushing via a water hose?
